Hello, our blog followers! I hope you are all enjoying the unusually mild winter!
I'm Jisoo Hong, one of the new policy interns at MWC for the spring semester 2012. I'm a senior at Macalester College with a major in political science and a minor in German. As a heavy "theory" person in the academic field, I'm excited to test out and expand my understandings of politics while working as a MWC intern.
You probably find my name exotic; I'm from Seoul, South Korea. It is my 7th year in the United States, 6th in Minnesota, as a student. (I guess I've spent almost a third of my short life here?) My years in MN developed some special feelings for Minnesota. This is where I felt home for the first time. When I'm back at home across the Pacific Ocean, I miss MN and its characteristics: MN State Fair, its political atmosphere, the diverse options for food, amazing theater programs, student discount tickets to MN orchestra, used book stores, and of course, friends and memories... A big part of interning here reflects my last minute hope to learn about Minnesota in depth before graduating from college.
Although I've indicated myself as a "theory" person, I also actively engage in policy matters. I've volunteered and interned to make improvement in many different areas. Among such, establishing equality and justice for all--regardless of, to say a few gender, minority status, and/or personal affiliation--has been at the very top of the list. I hope to bring my previous experience and diverse perspective to our office, to our blog postings, and a little step toward realizing equality and justice for all.
And most importantly, STAY TUNED for our blog posts! It's always fun to learn new interesting stuff from different perspectives, right?

Yay! Go Jisoo! Continuing the Macalester legacy at the wonderful MWC.
Much love.
